This photograph was sent to Frank Birkenbach, Jr. by Richard Birkenbach of Fulda, Germany in 1981. Richard writes about their grandfathers, Josef Birkenbach and August Birkenbach, while describing the family farm:

"My grandfather's house is also the same house as your grandfather's. It is in Danzwiesen, District of Fulda. It is a small place on the Rhön about 20 kilometers from the city of Fulda. The Rhön is a highland with the highest point the Wasserkuppe 950 meters elevation."

"I send a picture with this letter which was taken recently. It shows the front of the parent house of our grandparents and in the back the Milseburg, the third highest mountain in the Rhön (835 meters). The main house was changed a little, but is basically the same as originally . The other buildings were added in later years."
